The subject here is a Northern automobile, shown from a front quarter angle with its top removed, which puts the car's lines and radiator front in view. Detroit Publishing Company was known mainly for travel and scenery views, but its photographers also recorded machines and commercial life in the years before 1910, when the automobile was moving from novelty toward everyday use. The image survives as an 8 by 10 inch glass dry plate negative, later given to the State Historical Society of Colorado in 1949, and its company number places it within the firm's larger catalog.
