Few views in the Detroit Publishing Company collection show a distillery's administrative side, and this glass negative captures the north front of the Hiram Walker & Sons offices in Walkerville, Ontario. Hiram Walker, an American who settled across the Detroit River, built the Walkerville works into one of Canada's major whisky distilleries, and the town grew up around the company. Walkerville is now part of Windsor. The Detroit Publishing Company, known for its large-format views of cities, industry and landscapes, made this image between about 1905 and 1915, when company photographers were documenting North American commerce and towns.
