This view shows the back of the clubhouse at Walkerville, Ontario, a town on the Detroit River that grew up around the Hiram Walker distillery and was later absorbed into Windsor. Photographers usually framed clubhouses from the front, so the rear angle gives a less common look at the building and its surroundings. The picture is a glass dry plate negative from the Detroit Publishing Company, which sold views of towns, resorts and buildings across North America in the years around 1905 to 1915. Its catalog number and Canadian location make it a useful record of early twentieth-century leisure architecture on the Canadian side of the river.
