Cleveland's American League club is the team on the uniform here, and the setting is Hilltop Park in upper Manhattan, where the New York Highlanders played from 1903 until 1912. The Bain News Service, a New York wire photo agency, made the glass negative and its caption card credits the player as George Kahler. Working in an era before fast press photography, agencies like Bain sold such images to newspapers and magazines, so pictures of visiting players at rival parks were common. The 1911 date comes from later research by the Society for American Baseball Research's Pictorial History Committee.
