This view shows the entrance front of the Kings County Courthouse, with the Municipal Building on the right and the Hall of Records beside it, grouped together as the civic center of downtown Brooklyn. In the early 1890s Brooklyn was still a separate city, not part of New York City until consolidation in 1898, so these buildings housed the county's courts and records. The photogravure process, which produced fine tonal detail on a printing plate, was copyrighted by A. Wittemann. The date comes from an old caption card and has not been independently verified.
