Catalogued as "Missis, The," this c1905 view survives as an 8 by 10 inch glass dry plate negative, a large format the Detroit Publishing Company used for its scenic and travel work. The Detroit firm sold views of American towns, landscapes and resort destinations to tourists and publishers in the early 1900s, and its negatives were often reproduced as postcards and booklet illustrations. This example came to the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado, which helps explain how a Detroit firm's negative ended up in a Colorado collection before joining the national library's holdings.
