Troy High School in Troy, New York, is the subject of this 8 by 10 inch glass negative, catalogued by the Detroit Publishing Company as number 018824 and dated to about 1905 from the firm's 1906 catalog. The Detroit Publishing Company, based in Michigan, produced a large body of photographs of American towns, buildings, and landscapes around the turn of the century, many of them sold as views for postcards and printed catalogs. Large glass plates like this one recorded architectural detail with unusual sharpness, and they give a useful documentary picture of civic buildings in Troy, a Hudson River manufacturing city at the time.
