The American pavilion at the 1900 Paris Exposition appears here from the waterfront, with the Seine and its embankment in view, a setting that matches the record's subject tags. The Exposition Universelle drew exhibits of industry and design from many nations, and its riverside location made the Seine a common subject for visitors and photographers. Stereographs such as this one were made as pairs of slightly offset views, which a stereoscope merged into a single three-dimensional scene. The image was registered with the U.S. Copyright Office around 1901, which is why a copy survives in the Library of Congress.
