A health message aimed at the whole household, this silkscreen poster asks families to protect a wife or husband and children from syphilis. Produced under the Federal Art Project in New York State during the 1930s, it reflects public health campaigns that treated venereal disease as a family concern rather than a private matter. Syphilis was widespread then and could pass from parent to child before birth, which gave the warning real weight. The poster's bold color and plain wording show how the program used modern graphic design to reach people who would never have read a health pamphlet.
