The title names this as Union Station, though Richmond's passenger terminal of that era is generally known as Main Street Station, a shared depot built at the turn of the century for several railroads serving the city. This 8 by 10 inch glass negative was made by the Detroit Publishing Company, whose photographers documented American towns, rail lines and scenery in the years around 1910. The station was a busy gateway for travelers entering and leaving Richmond, so the picture captures a place where the railroad shaped the city's commerce and daily life.
