Few events of the war were recorded as thoroughly as the Grand Review of the Army in Washington, which this glass negative documents from May 1865. Over two days, in late May, Union troops marched up Pennsylvania Avenue before cheering crowds, closing out the Civil War's major campaigns. This is a stereograph negative made with the wet collodion process, a format meant to be viewed in pairs through a stereoscope. The photographer is credited as David B. Woodbury, who died in 1866, based on Civil War caption books.
