San Leandro, a town on the east shore of San Francisco Bay in Alameda County, is the subject here, shown in a general view. The Library holds only one half of what was issued as a stereographic pair, from the Gems of California scenery series, number 26, published in 1866. Stereoviews like this sold widely in the 1860s, when parlor viewers made distant landscapes and towns seem three-dimensional. The caption data comes from an old card and has not been verified, so the exact date and vantage point should be treated with some caution.
