The sitter is recorded as Lilita Dawson, but that name comes from data the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve and has not been independently verified, so treat it as a working title. The negative is dated to about 1924, based on other glass negatives in the same range. The National Photo Company was a Washington, D.C., studio that produced a large body of portraits and city views, and the Library of Congress received this collection as a 1947 gift from Herbert A. French. Because the image is on glass, it may show streaks and other blemishes from the gradual breakdown of its original coatings.
