Welcome to Montana" greets the viewer in this bold silkscreen poster, issued under the See America title that appeared across a series of late-1930s travel posters. It was produced by the Federal Art Project in New York, part of the Works Progress Administration, which employed artists during the Depression and turned out inexpensive color prints for public display and tourism promotion. Montana, with its mountain ranges and national parks such as Glacier, was one of the western destinations these posters encouraged travelers to see. The date stamped on the back, September 2, 1938, places the print in circulation near the height of the program.
