A lone rider on horseback sits against a rocky butte in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, and the small figure makes the rock look enormous. The picture comes from the National Photo Company, a commercial studio that sold views of American scenery to tourists and publishers in the early twentieth century. Rocky Mountain National Park was established in 1915, and the catalog dates this print somewhere between 1909 and 1932, a period when horseback travel was still a common way to explore the backcountry.
