Its caption names the Plaza Hotel, but the date does not fit the building most people know by that name. The Plaza at Grand Army Plaza on Fifth Avenue opened in 1907, so the c1894 date and title are probably imprecise, and the record itself flags its information as unverified. The print carries a copyright credit to J.S. Johnston and the number 220, marks of the commercial city-view photographs that circulated widely in the 1890s. Those series were often sold as souvenirs and are useful for showing how New York's streetscapes and hotels looked before the later rebuilding.
