Joan of Arc was a favorite subject for sculptors, and this August 1915 print records one of her statues as it was photographed that summer. The young peasant woman who rallied French forces during the Hundred Years' War was burned at Rouen in 1431, and by the early twentieth century her image had become a popular emblem of French patriotism. The photograph was registered for U.S. copyright, a common route for images of monuments and works of art at the time. It was later included in a 2007 exhibition on Joan of Arc at the Knights of Columbus Museum in New Haven, Connecticut.
