Dated January 20, 1922, this view of the White House comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented the city's streets, buildings, and monuments in the early twentieth century. President Warren G. Harding had been in office since March 1921, so the mansion was then the home of his administration. The record's title is unverified, so the exact vantage point is uncertain, but the negative captures the executive residence as it looked in the early 1920s. Its streaks and blemishes come from the natural aging of the original coatings, which is worth noticing when comparing it with later prints.
