Titled "The first landing place of Columbus," this print points to the island where the explorer first set foot in the Americas on October 12, 1492, which he named San Salvador. Historians still debate the exact spot. The print was registered for copyright in late November 1892, the four-hundredth anniversary year of that voyage, when the United States marked the occasion with fairs, celebrations, and many commemorative images. Its shelflist card links it to a name, Blaney, though that attribution has not been verified.
