Few German theaters carried as much court prestige as the Munich house the record calls the State Theater, now known as the Bavarian State Opera on Max-Joseph-Platz. The view was made by the photochrom process, which printed full color from a set of lithographic stones made from a photograph. The print comes from a Detroit Publishing Company catalog issued in 1905 under the title *Views of Germany*, though the picture itself dates from roughly the 1890s, when color views like this were popular with travelers who wanted souvenirs of European cities.
