A perspective rendering of a proposed design for the Puck Theater in New York City, this drawing shows the building as its architects hoped it would look rather than as it was built. Made in pencil and colored pencil on tracing paper, it reflects a common method of the 1930s, when architects used semitransparent sheets to refine lines and present a theater's street-level facade and interior to clients. Movie houses of this period often drew on Moderne styling, with streamlined forms and bold geometry, and renderings like this one reveal how designers imagined those spaces before construction began.
