Nixon's Apollo theater stood at the corner of the Boardwalk and New York Avenue in Atlantic City, New Jersey, a resort town that in the 1920s was building some of the largest and most lavish movie palaces on the East Coast. This ink drawing, catalogued as part of the Library of Congress's Architecture, Design and Engineering collection, records the building's design from 1929, the year the theater was documented. Its subject sits within a wave of theater construction that transformed seaside entertainment, when moving pictures drew crowds to ornate auditoriums built to rival the grandest venues in the city.
