Few drawings in the set show a building from the front edge of the Boardwalk, and this one fixes the Stanley theater at the corner of the Boardwalk and Kentucky Avenue in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The ink drawing is dated 1937, when the resort was known for its large movie palaces, many built to draw crowds off the sand and boardwalk. Atlantic City's theaters of the 1930s catered to vacationers as well as local audiences, and their facades were designed to be seen from a distance. The record places it among the architectural drawings of the Library of Congress's Prints and Photographs Division, a useful source for anyone studying how seaside entertainment buildings looked during the Depression years.
