Saint Brelades Bay lies on the southwest coast of Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands, and this print shows the bay as it looked in the 1890s. The image is a photochrom, a process developed by the Swiss firm Photoglob in Zürich that printed photographs in color from a set of lithographic stones. The Detroit Publishing Company held American rights to the process and sold these views widely in the United States. The record files it under "Views of England," though Jersey is a Crown dependency and not part of England, a detail that says as much about how the catalog was organized as about the island itself.
