A young girl identified in the record as Filipino poses at Coney Island, the Brooklyn beach and amusement district that drew large crowds in the early twentieth century. The title comes from unverified notes made by the Bain News Service on the negatives or caption cards, so her background and the exact date remain uncertain. The George Grantham Bain Collection, which holds these glass negatives, came from a news photo agency that worked mainly in New York from about 1900 into the 1920s, and its pictures often capture everyday street and leisure scenes. Treat the identification as a starting point for further research.
