A fire on the Brooklyn peninsula at Coney Island is the subject of this 1911 glass negative, one of many news views made by the Bain News Service. The resort's amusement grounds were crowded with wooden pavilions, rides and boardwalk structures, which made large blazes a recurring threat in the early 1900s. Bain's photographers covered such events for newspapers and illustrated weeklies, so the negative records the scene as a working news image. The title comes from caption data supplied by the Bain News Service and has not been independently verified.
