This glass negative records General Pedro Nel Ospina, a Colombian army officer who went on to serve as president from 1922 to 1926. The record dates the exposure to May 4, 1922, a few months before he took office that August, when he was already a prominent figure in national politics. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., firm that made portraits and news pictures of public figures, produced the negative. Viewers may notice streaks and blemishes, which the catalog attributes to natural deterioration of the original coatings.
