The Fine Arts Building at the 1895 Cotton States and International Exposition in Atlanta is the subject here, its galleries filled with pictures hung close together. The exposition ran from September to December 1895 and was meant to showcase the cotton trade and the industrial growth of the New South, a city still rebuilding its image after the Civil War. Its art hall gave Atlanta audiences a chance to see large displays of painting in a region where such shows were less common. The card is part of R.A. Ellis's numbered series, a format that was popular for souvenir views of fairs and exhibitions.
