Crowds pressing toward the State Capitol in Atlanta surround William McKinley as he arrives for the Peace Jubilee, a celebration of sectional reconciliation held during the Cotton States and International Exposition in 1895. At that time McKinley was the former governor of Ohio, not yet president, so the title on the card reflects his later office, and the card itself was published by Strohmeyer & Wyman in New York around 1899. The Jubilee was meant to draw Northern and Southern visitors together, a few decades after the Civil War, and stereographs like this one carried such public moments into parlors across the country.
