This bird's-eye panorama shows Wallingford, a town in New Haven County, Connecticut, as it looked in 1905. Wallingford grew in the nineteenth century around its metalworking and silverware industries, and a view like this one lets you trace where the mills, rail lines, and church spires stood in relation to the residential streets. Panoramic maps of this kind were drawn in perspective, as if seen from a high vantage point, so the buildings appear in recognizable detail rather than as flat outlines. Such views were popular with town residents and businesses, who often looked for their own homes and shops on the page.
