Father and son share the frame in this 1927 portrait of Yale economist Irving Fisher with his son, also named Irving. Fisher taught at Yale for decades and was known for his work on the quantity theory of money and his early use of index numbers to measure price changes. The photograph was made by Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied pictures to newspapers, and its negatives are now held in the George Grantham Bain Collection. Fisher later drew attention for his optimistic remarks about stock prices shortly before the 1929 crash.
