The Irving Trust Company building at 1 Wall Street occupies a prominent corner at the head of the street, where the financial district meets Broadway and the Trinity Church area. The photograph dates from about 1932, a few years after the Wall Street crash of 1929, when the district's new office towers still stood as symbols of the city's commercial ambitions. The print is a photoprint by Irving Underhill, a New York photographer who recorded the city's buildings and streets in the early twentieth century.
