Night lighting drew crowds to the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, and this stereo card captures the glitter of electric light in the Court of Four Seasons. The fair ran from February to December 1915, marking the opening of the Panama Canal and the city's recovery from the 1906 earthquake and fire. Its illumination was among its most talked-about features, with electric lamps and reflective surfaces making the buildings seem to shimmer after dark. Keystone View Company, a major publisher of stereographs, sold cards like this one so viewers could revisit the fair through a stereoscope at home.
