Tshusick, identified in the title as an Ojibwe woman, is shown here in her dress, which is the focus of the print's subject headings. The lithograph was drawn, printed and hand-colored at the Philadelphia shop of I.T. Bowen, and E.C. Biddle published it around 1837. Hand coloring was added to many lithographs of this period, so each impression could differ in its palette. Prints like this one document how Native American sitters were portrayed for an eastern audience in the 1830s, and the clothing and ornament shown here are worth close attention.
