The caption gives this parade only a date, May 30, so the occasion has to be inferred from the calendar. For much of the early twentieth century, that date was observed as Decoration Day in many American towns, when residents held memorial services and parades, and fire companies often marched alongside veterans and local societies. The Bain News Service, which made this glass negative, was a commercial press photo agency, so the picture was likely meant for newspaper use. The title comes from caption data the agency recorded and has not been independently verified.
