The Medical College building at the University of Minnesota, photographed around 1908, shows the campus in Minneapolis at a time when the university was expanding its professional schools. This glass-plate negative came from the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm that produced large numbers of views of American cities, universities and landscapes in the early twentieth century, often for sale as postcards and illustrated booklets. The medical school's presence in the photograph reflects the broader growth of formal medical training in the United States during those decades, when hospitals and laboratories were becoming central to how doctors learned their craft.
