Numbered fifth in a series of Ordnance Department recruiting posters, this 1919 print pitches the Army's technical branch to young men at a time when the United States was demobilizing after the armistice. The subject list points to the trades it advertised: military vehicles, artillery, and specialized training. Ordnance was responsible for supplying and maintaining the Army's weapons and motor transport, so its postwar recruiting leaned on the promise of skilled work in mechanics and machinery. The poster is a useful example of how the peacetime Army competed for enlistees by selling technical education rather than combat.
