This 1919 recruiting poster, Ordnance Recruiting Poster No. 4, sets six small photographs around a central appeal to young men to join the Army's Ordnance Department. The captions show what the training covered: a railway gun, a tractor-mounted howitzer, a class in gasoline engines, machine gun instruction, a big tractor in operation, and an anti-aircraft gun being sighted. Issued the same year the war ended, the poster was meant to draw recruits toward technical work in the Army's expanding mechanized and artillery branches. It reflects a moment when the Army was looking to keep skilled mechanics and engineers in uniform after 1918.
