Harry Kellar, one of the most celebrated stage magicians of the 1890s, is the name that anchors this poster, which promotes his touring show under the headline "Kellar's startling wonder." Kellar, who lived from 1849 to 1922, drew large audiences across the United States and abroad with elaborate illusions. The sheet was printed by the Strobridge Lithographing Company, whose Cincinnati and New York shops produced many colorful theatrical bills of the period. Its 1894 copyright registration reflects the commercial boom in color lithography, when posters like this one were designed to catch the eye of passersby and fill seats.
