Drawn in graphite on translucent tracing paper, this sheet shows a single lounge chair from several angles, the kind of working study a designer makes while testing a form. Library staff devised the title, and the record places the drawing among Eames chairs of the 1940s, when Charles and Ray Eames were experimenting with molded plywood and other new materials for furniture. The design later became the Eames Lounge Chair, introduced by Herman Miller in 1956, and this drawing was later included in a museum exhibition devoted to that chair.
