Howard Thurston, one of the most celebrated American stage magicians of the early twentieth century, is the headliner of this 1915 color lithograph, which promoted his touring illusion show as "The Wonder Show of the Universe." The poster's listed subjects of demons, ghosts, skulls, and dwarfs point to the macabre, theatrical spectacle that audiences expected from his act. Cincinnati's Strobridge Lithographing Company was a major American poster printer, and its bold, large-format work helped define the look of traveling entertainment advertising in the period before film dominated popular amusement.
