The poster's title announces the "great shows consolidated" under the names of Adam Forepaugh and the Sells Brothers, and its subjects include Forepaugh himself and Lewis Sells. Forepaugh built a major traveling menagerie and circus in the 1880s, and after his death in 1890 his show merged with the Sells Brothers enterprise, so the print records a business alliance as much as a performance. Strobridge Lithographing Company of Cincinnati was among the leading American firms producing large chromolithographic circus posters at the time. Such posters were pasted on walls and fences ahead of a show's arrival, and they remain valuable records of the period's advertising and popular portraiture.
