Four men named Harry Almond, A.J. Sullivan, Dave Sullivan, and Odell S. Smith are identified in the title of this glass negative, dated September 1, 1923, though the record notes that the names come from unverified data written on the negative or its sleeve. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C. studio active from about 1906 into the early 1930s, produced large numbers of portraits and news pictures, and its glass plates now form a major part of the Library of Congress holdings. The record also points out streaks and blemishes caused by the natural breakdown of the original coating, which are visible traces of the plate's age.
