The procession in this photograph was a state funeral for Oberst Werner Mölders, one of the Luftwaffe's best-known fighter pilots, who died in a plane crash in November 1941. The print's record names Hermann Göring among the attendees and shows a coffin moving through Berlin with artillery in the procession. The route ended at the Invalidenfriedhof, a historic military cemetery in the city. Images like this one were widely circulated at the time, so they show both the ceremony itself and the state's effort to present Mölders as a national hero.
