Two Pittsburgh Pirates players, pitcher Babe Adams and outfielder Owen Wilson, are paired in this 1913 glass negative. Adams was one of the club's steadiest pitchers of the era, and he pitched in the 1909 World Series, when the Pirates beat the Detroit Tigers. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency, produced and distributed images like this one to newspapers, so the portrait reflects the press demand for baseball pictures in the 1910s. The date and title come from a 2006 Society for American Baseball Research review, so they are best read as well-researched estimates.
