A blind stamp on this tinted print names the Taber studio at 121 Post Street in San Francisco, and the image is dated September 15, 1894, more than a year after Benjamin Harrison left the presidency. It shows him in a head-and-shoulders pose, turned slightly to the left. Hand-applied color over a photographic base was a popular finish for portraits in the 1890s, giving this card a softer, more personal look than a plain black-and-white print. Harrison, a grandson of President William Henry Harrison, served one term from 1889 to 1893.
