Few posters on this board speak as directly as this one, whose German slogan, *Dein Vaterland ist in Gefahr, melde dich!*, means "Your fatherland is in danger, enlist!" Designed by L. Zabel and printed as a color lithograph by the Berlin firm Dinse & Eckert around 1918, it dates from the last years of the First World War, when Germany was still calling men to the front. The library's subject headings tie it to both recruiting and the war's aftermath in Berlin, a reminder that appeals like this were printed in large numbers as the conflict wound down.
