Pluto's Creek, near the Geyser Springs resort in Sonoma County, is the setting here, and the view shows a wagon crossing where the road met the water. In the 1880s, the hot springs and mineral baths of northern Sonoma drew steady stagecoach and wagon traffic, and fords like this one were still common before many rural streams were bridged. Andrew Price's stereograph was made as a pair of slightly offset images that, viewed through a hand stereoscope, gave the scene depth. Cards like this were sold to households and travelers who wanted a view of the West without leaving home.
