Few prints from the early war years carry a title as pointed as *The New Order*, a phrase the Nazi regime used for the German-dominated Europe it hoped to build. William Sharp's etching and aquatint turns that slogan toward its human cost, focusing on a group of captives rather than the powers that imposed the system. This impression is numbered 2 of 15 and signed in pencil. It was included in *Artists for Victory*, a wartime exhibition of American art first shown in New York in 1942 to support the national war effort.
