Culp's Hill rises just southeast of Cemetery Hill, and this stereograph shows the wooded ground from the Union position that anchored the army's right flank. On the evening of July 2, 1863, Confederate troops attacked the hill's slopes, and fighting there resumed the next morning before Union soldiers regained the high ground. By the 1920s, the battlefield had become a popular destination, and Keystone View of Meadville, Pennsylvania, produced many such cards for travelers and home viewers. Paired in a stereo viewer, the two images gave a sense of depth that a flat print could not.
